HAITIAN MANGO

Haitian mango (also known as Francine mango) is a unique variety of mangoes, available only from Haiti. Has a flat shape and elongated and the color is between greenish and yellow.

Recipes

These Haitian mangoes can be enjoyed peeled with some lemon juice drops. Its skin cannot be eaten because is bitter. Also can be enjoyed in a fruit salad accompanied by pieces of pineapple, kiwi, papaya, banana or almost all the tropical fruits. You can serve it with grated coconut. Also ideal as an ingredient for a refreshing and nourishing tropical drink using Haitian mango juice, banana, pineapple and a bit of lemon juice.

Culture

In the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden (Miami, USA) is annually celebrated the International Mango Festival, where it can be found up to 200 varieties of mangoes, including the Haitian mango. Furthermore, there are offered cultural and gastronomic activities surrounded by some beautiful and exotic Fairchild gardens.

Origin

This variety is typical and exclusive from Haiti.

Nutritional Value

60 calories in 100 grams. Ideal to control cholesterol levels and to reduce hypertension because its rich source of vitamin C. It also contains high levels of carotenoids which the body converts them into vitamin B and is a good antioxidant.
